About Our Trustees
SUR “Sublime Urge to Rejoice” established in 2014 and aims to spread finest arts to aficionado and lovers of arts. SUR’s founders engage in these arts’ services based on their experience of working in the field of arts over the years. SUR is trying to build the necessary resources and expertise to help artistes with the arts meaningfully, in ways that one wishes to and in ways that meets one’s arts-related requirements.
SUR is dedicated to providing a stable platform to such art forms like Indian Classical Music, Dance, Film, Theatre, and literature. With social impact in mind, SUR has embarked a journey of making the world a better place to live with music as a medium. Sustained excellence in terms of stage performance, reaching out to thousands of common people’s heart through social work, and spreading happiness, love and peace with music are the main mantras of SUR.
Anirban Bhattacharyya (Anir) grew up in Kolkata India in a musical family where his mother and grandmother were trained in Indian classical music, music composed by Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Atulprasad Sen. He learnt music from his mother in childhood. He also developed interest in playing drums and guitar in childhood. He did his bachelors of music in classical Hawaiian guitar from Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, Kolkata, affiliated with University of Allahabad at the age of 15.
Anir is a visionary leader and focuses on national development and social causes in India. He wants to create a positive impact towards India’s growth to become a developed country. He brings 15 years of corporate leadership and strategy experience to the organization.
Anir is based out of Edison, New Jersey, USA and travels across the globe for work related activities. He is very curious about regional music and he spends time amidst his work socializing with local music bands wherever he travels to.
Anir received a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with first class distinction from Birla Institute of Technology and Science in India. He has his MBA degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, specialized in strategy and marketing. Anir has a passion for volunteering with non-profit organizations, currently helping an anti-sex trafficking organization named Apne Aap (Self Help) in India. He coaches soccer to the young children in Edison, NJ where he lives.

Anirban Adhikary Born and brought up at a family of music lovers and financial executives. At his childhood he got lessons in Tabla and Sitar too so, got affinity to music deeply along with his academic pursuit. He has got good educational background with experience in Accounting, Auditing, and Project Work. Graduated with honours in Mathematics from reputed institution and did his PG in Business Economics with specialization in Finance.
Got experience in quantitative/ statistical analysis, budgeting, accounting, and forecasting. He provides robust modeling and reporting to facilitate executive-level decision making. Strong analytical skills; support business operations through analysis of key performance indicators and trends.
From his childhood he has into lots of creative projects in the field of arts and academic projects.

Samanwaya Sarkar, is an A Graded of All India Radio and Doordarshan and an outstanding artiste of the younger generation. He is known for his mesmerizing approach and sparklingly perfect strokes on his expression of meends, gamaks, choot, fast and intricate taans from the lower octaves to soaring heights with ease. His unique way to unfold ragas gives his audience a unique aesthetic bliss of mind, for which he has achieved a remarkable reputation throughout the country and abroad at such an early age.
He started his primary lessons from his very childhood at the hands of Pt. Sasanka Bandopdhyaya. His subsequent taalim from Pt. Manilal Nag for 12 years, Pt. Shyamal Chatterjee and Pt. Kumar Prasad Mukherjee respectively belonging to Bishnupur, Senia Maihar and Agra Atrauli gharana has greatly contributed to his unique style of blending Tantrakaari ang ( i.e.style of instrumental music) with gayaki ang (i.e. style of vocal music) of Dhrupad and Khayal. Since his childhood he got his father Sri Swapan Kumar Sarkar in every step of his musical pursuit.
Presently, he has been under the tutelage of the legendary Padmavibhushan Girija Devi as a Gandabandh disciple, from whom he has imbibed the intricacies of khayal, thumri, tappa, dadra, jhula etc in his Sitar.
According to her gurumaa Smt. Girija Devi ji “He is the only Sitarist of the country who is playing tappa after learning the proper intricacies of the form.”
He has been also performing duet of Sitar and Vocal with a fine young Vocalist maintaining the traditional way of tantrakaari ang and gayaki ang.
Recently he composed additional music and performed live with Debapriya Adhikary, for an Australian film “The Sleeping Warrior” based on Indian and Aboriginal spirituality got released worldwide in 2012.
He directed with Debapriya a documentary film featuring her Gurumaa’s immense contribution towards world the music named Girija “A lifetime In Music” that got awarded as the Best Documentary Feature by Los Angeles Independent Music Festival in April 2016.

Debapriya Adhikary, is an A graded artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan and one of the finest vocalists of the country of the younger generation, with a silken voice and uncanny command over the octaves his style of singing is marked by both elegance and grandeur that transcends the audience to a rare height of emotional excellence. His perfection of thoughts, and understanding of voice to keep even intricate elements soothing to ears got him admirers from around the world.
Initially he got his music nurtured and nourished from his very childhood at the hands of his mother Smt. Anita Adhikary. Seeing her child’s interest she took him to Pt. Samaresh Chawdhury of Senia Gharana where he learnt for long 13 years,after she groomed her son the rudiments of Classical music. Debapriya also got a change in his approach towards music with the very guidance of Pt. Kumar Prasad Mukherjee Agra Atrauli Gharana whom he got for a very little time and also learnt with Pt. Vijay Kichlu ji for a while. Both enriched his gayaki with both khayalang and dhrupadang.
Finally his continued taalim since last 9 years with the legendary Padmavibhushan Girija Devi of Benaras Gharana as a Gandabandh disciple has helped him acquire mastery on thumri, tappa, dadra, kajri, jhula etc alongwith the subtleties of khayal he gets from her. With all these Debapriya has earned a name and fame in his land and abroad. He is a topper with Masters in Music from University of Calcutta and empanelled artiste with ICCR.
He has been also performing duet of Vocal and Sitar with an excellent young sitarist maintaining the traditional way of Raag badhat with detailed alapchaari and other angas (phrases) of North Indian Classical music.
