SUR’s search for talents from underprivileged kids


SUR has taken an oath to reach out all sections of society with music. As we believe music is an innate quality that remains in everybody in immense manner or petite and it’s karte ki vidya, a virtue that can only be developed by “one’s own deeds and strives”. SUR believes that some gems absolutely can be found out from any section of the society to carry forward this art form keeping it alive in every corner of human civilization. So, SUR’s mentors and few advanced students are providing free training to kids of underprivileged section of the society to pick talented kids from amongst them for further deeper training under the Scholarship Programs of SUR Academy that can further turn them into good professional performers, trainers, or academicians. Depending on the interest SUR team is training children with Indian Classical Music and other forms.

Long back SUR’s founder trustees Debapriya and Samanwaya did a musical presentation and workshop for kids with special needs in Australia at one of the schools run by ACT govt. They were invited by National Multicultural Festival, Canberra in 2008. The response and the sensible applause of the kids towards the subtleties of Indian Classical music made the duo emotional and Samanwaya cried on stage just feeling their urge to be happy. Music got such power. Since then they got the dream to do meaningful projects with the kids with special needs, to enrich their mind with music and prepare atleast one to carry forward music for their life like others musicians. When Debapriya and Samanwaya met Anirban Bhattacharyya the President Trustee of SUR, and came to know his immense activities with social awareness groups and his own contribution towards anti sex trafficking and orphans, they were overwhelmed to join hands together to make this dream true. Anirban also got CSR expertise. And now SUR is carrying forward a venture to give musical education to “Children with special gifts and not needs” and find out the impact of MUSIC therapy.
